Explore Aboriginal culture on this 2-day fun, interactive and educational kids camp in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Kids will engage in a range of cultural activities led by Elders, starting with a traditional smoking ceremony. Learn about bush tucker and enjoy a hands-on cooking class. Discover traditional Art and create your own dot painting. Get active in the traditional music and dance workshop. Gain insight into the ingenuity and craftsmanship of traditional Aboriginal tools and weapons and their uses for hunting, gathering, and survival. In the evening enjoy a sharing circle sitting around the campfire.


What to expect

On this 2-day camp, kids will be guided by experienced Aboriginal educators and Elders, ensuring an authentic and respectful immersion into the heart of Aboriginal culture. Embrace the opportunity to learn, connect, and discover the profound wisdom that has been passed down through generations.

Koori Kulcha offer a variety of programs designed for Youth aged 5years to 17 years. We provide fun activities to educate Youth in Culture. Programs include:

  • Cultural Talks
  • Indigenous history and timeline
  • Past policies and procedures and their social impact
  • Art program using ochre and bark and or acrylic and canvas
  • Indigenous cooking classes
  • Design and make your own artefact
  • Visit a cultural site
  • Learn the art of Traditional dance

Costing $385+ GST per child.

Minimum number of 10 people, maximum number of 20 people.

Age Groups  10 to 12yrs and 12 to 15yrs.

Available days Wednesday & Thursday or Saturday & Sunday.

Cancellation fee applies 70% if cancelled 48hrs out then 100%


Itinerary

Day 1: Unveiling the Treasures of Aboriginal Heritage

  • Welcome to Country: Begin your journey with a traditional smoking ceremony, a heartfelt invitation to connect with the land and its custodians.
  • Bush Tucker Exploration: Enjoy a hands-on Aboriginal Cooking class where students are taught how to cook Indigenous meals – in the cooking school and also the outdoor cooking pit. Students will be able to enjoy what was cooked during the course and taste all the flavours they have learned about.
  • Traditional Craftsmanship: Master the art of Aboriginal dot painting, creating your own masterpiece inspired by the Dreaming's boundless creativity.
  • Enjoy dinner together with the kids group.
  • Sharing Circles: Gather around a campfire for an intimate sharing circle, where you'll connect with fellow participants and Elders, listening to stories, songs, and cultural insights.

Day 2: Honoring the Spirit of Connection

  • Traditional Music and Dance: Immerse yourself in the rhythmic beats of Aboriginal music and dance, learning the steps and melodies that embody the spirit of the land.
  • Weapons and Tools Demonstration: Gain insight into the ingenuity and craftsmanship of traditional Aboriginal tools and weapons, understanding their significance in hunting, gathering, and survival.
